The Reluctant Fundamentalist
This book was recommended to me by a friend, and I was quite excited to read this author’s second book since his first one “Moth Smoke” was an absolutely fascinating insight into life in Pakistan.
At the book club meeting, I think most of us were impressed by his style of writing but felt that the author completely failed to give a rational explanation as to why he became a fundamentalist. It was disheartening to read that an intelligent and educated person could go down the path to fundamentalism.
The consensus was that Changez was a fundamentalist at heart but was a “Reluctant American”.
